Duties & Responsibilities :   

Under limited direction, supervises the security or programmatic activities of a small to medium sized Regional Youth Detention Center. Other duties include, but are not limited to, relieving the Director of administrative detail and serving in the Director`s role during absences or as requested. The Assistant Director of Security will manage the security functions of the facility and maintain all standards set forth by the Department. Develops and implements appropriate security and facility policies and procedures. Directs subordinate supervisors as well as other institutional staff. Plans, implements, directs, and coordinates various correctional programs and activities. Performs crisis response, containment, and intervention in emergencies. Oversees and/or conducts inspections, searches, investigations, and evaluations. Monitors, inspects, and evaluates operations, programs, services, activities, and conditions. Identifies training needs and provides guidance and training to correctional staff. May serve as Training Coordinator for the facility, as well as other additional duty assignments.

NOTES:

Minimum Qualifications :   
Bachelor`s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of closely related experience in a criminal justice or correctional system.
OR
Three years of supervisory custodial experience in a criminal justice or correctional system with at least one year at a level equivalent to a manager in a law enforcement setting. Note: Some positions may require P.O.S.T. certification.
  

Preferred Qualifications :   

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications possess the following:

1. Four or more years of supervisory experience in an adult or juvenile secure correctional facility setting.
2. Experience overseeing security and emergency management programs.
3. Preference will be given to current and former DJJ employees.
