Provides temporary, secure care and supervision to youths who are charged with crimes or who have been found guilty of crimes and are awaiting disposition of their cases by a juvenile court. Additionally, youths committed to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice are frequently held in secure detention while awaiting placement in one of DJJ's treatment programs or facilities.
Also provides education, individual guidance and counseling, medical services, recreation, and arts and crafts. Clothing, meals, and medical and emergency dental care are a part of each center's basic care program.
Directions from Atlanta:
Take I-75 South to I-16 East (Macon). At I-16 Exit 162 take the Chatham Parkway exit. Turn right, travel approximately ½ mile to the sign on the right for the Chatham County Sheriffs Complex at Carl Griffin Drive. Turn right at the sign, and go to the first street on the left and turn left into the Juvenile Court Complex. The Savannah RYDC is the building on the left.
