Office Of Training

Overview

The mission of the Office of Training is to provide effective basic and specialized training programs, in support of the Agency mission, effectively enhancing the safety, security and skills of our DJJ colleagues and partners.

DJJ instructors develop, facilitate and/or coordinate basic and specialized training to meet the unique challenges of working with the young offender population.

  • Best practices to effectively manage and rehabilitate youth 10 years of age and older.
  • Strategies to address the impact of trauma and victimization upon youth.
  • Skills to address the medical and mental health needs of detained youth.
  • Approaches to meet the educational needs of elementary, middle, and high school aged youth.

The Office of Training presents basic training for new security and non-security based employees at the DJJ Academy located on the campus of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, GA. DJJ basic training courses include such topics as:

  • DJJ Policies and Procedures,
  • Safety and Security,
  • Juvenile Sex Offender Supervision Training,
  • Adolescent Development,
  • Motivational Interviewing,
  • School Based Probation,
  • Case Management, etc..
