Georgia Preparatory Academy

Curriculum

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice School System (Georgia Preparatory Academy) is established as the 181st school district in Georgia and is accredited through AdvancED/SACS.

The curriculum department is charged with establishing and maintaining an appropriate educational experience for all youth. The curriculum department seeks to provide rigorous and relevant standards-based instruction, researched based resources and job embedded professional learning that assist teachers and instructional leaders in preparing students for high school graduation, post-secondary college and career opportunities.

Content Curriculum Specialists are assigned to all schools to observe teachers informally and formally and ensure teachers are implementing the Georgia Department of Education adopted standards. Also, the curriculum department provides clear expectations for instructional planning, instructional delivery, and student assessment. Although the Georgia Standards of Excellence define the level of work that demonstrates achievement of the standards, the curriculum department works collaboratively to ensure teachers have the self-efficacy to know "how good is good enough." Finally, all teachers have been provided the necessary professional learning to be able to isolate and identify the skills needed to instruct students to problem-solve, reason, communicate, and make connections to real-world experiences for optimum learning. We believe the rigorous instruction, coupled with standards-based classrooms and on-going coaching opportunities, will drastically increase student achievement in all academic areas.
